…But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked… Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee… My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever… (Psalm 73)
You may have felt like David did at some point in your life, wondering if your living was in vain. You may have felt that the wicked were prospering while you struggled. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:33 to “…seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you…” and in Matthew 6:19-21 to “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth…But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven…For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also…” Though we can choose to pursue money, wealth and fame like the world does, God wants us to pursue righteousness because it leads to life and treasures that won’t tarnish or be stolen.
